Are we witnessing the dawn of a new AI Cold War?
The ISD (Institute for Strategic Dialogue) has uncovered an AI-fueled misinformation campaign, dubbed 饾棪饾椊饾棶饾椇饾椉饾槀饾棾饾椆饾棶饾棿饾棽, orchestrated by a Chinese network aiming to stir the pot in the US presidential elections.
This operation uses AI-generated images of political figures and a barrage of social media accounts to exploit the fissures in American society and, perhaps, to meddle in its electoral process.
With about half of the world鈥檚 population voting this year, the fear of AI deep fakes swaying elections is palpable. But as the reports suggest, the 'Spamouflage' campaign's content is failing to resonate with audiences. Most suspected tweets receive no engagement and very low numbers of views.
In my opinion, Spamouflage has a vital lesson to teach us:
Without an insightful brief and a deep understanding of the audience and the medium, even the most advanced AI tools fall short in producing impactful deliverables.
